Three Little Tamales, The (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
I've used this book two years in a row when I do an annual Spanish/English storytime for Hispanic Heritage Month. The children know the general format of the story since it is a piggyback off of the classic The Three Little Pigs, but they also love the twist. For the storyteller, who may or may not speak Spanish very well, there is enough Spanish words (with a pronunciation guide in the back) in the story time contribute nicely to your program theme and to not make it a hard read. Year published: 2009This story is so cute about the 3 tamales who do not want to get eaten. Similar to The 3 Little Pigs story, the tamales run away and build houses. The first is out of sagebrush, the second is out of cornhusks and the third is out of cactus. The wolf tries to get inside and blows the first 2 houses down. The wolf and his part in this story stayed the same, but the other aspects were different. There were also many Spanish vocabulary words included and a glossary to figure out how to pronounce the words and what they mean.
