The television went fuzzy for a few moments, then showed Kitty’s bedroom. Her bed was in the center of the picture, and Kitty scooted back on the sheets. Noah came into view and climbed in next to her. They kissed, and Shane’s low moan could be heard off camera. Shane tore his gaze away from the television and studied real-life Noah’s tense jaw and hard eyes. When the Shane on the television moaned a second time, Noah muted the volume and tossed the remote onto the coffee table. The man was hurting. How could Shane have been so stupid? In trying to figure out his own emotions, Shane had neglected to give Noah what he needed. His friend was right; Shane had been very selfish. But that was in the past and couldn’t be changed. Shane only had control over what happened in the present and the future. He had to make the best of it. “I don’t want you to go,” he said. Noah glanced at him, then turned back to the television and said nothing. Shane rounded the couch and sat beside him.
