Lester, H. (2011). Wodney wat's wobot. New York: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company."Wodney Wat's Wobot" by Helen Lester and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger is a enjoyable story of Rodney Rat. When he gets a talking robot for his birthday Rodney is elated because he can have the robot pronounce the letter R when Rodney struggles. Rodney brings his robot everywhere and all his classmates love it. That is until the class bully Camilla Capybara returns to school. Camilla Capybara is mean to everyone , even then teacher. When Rodney's robot's batteries start dying Rodney's stutter comes back and the sound of the robot's voice scares Camilla and she leaves again. All the children are glad Camilla is gone. I think this story is enjoyable. The premise is funny with the animal characters and their names. I do like how the book depicts real situations in schools such as bullying and a child having a stutter. I would say this book is good for kindergarten through third grade. I would read this book to my class. I'm not sure Wodney Wat need a Weprise, but we got one anyway. It wasn't bad. Wodney got a wobot, er robot, and it can repeat anything anyone says to it - including Rodney - only it says things properly. So it no longer matters that Rodney can't say his Rs. All he has to do is whisper to the robot and the robot says them for him. But oh no! Camilla Capybara returns after having gone west until she circumnavigated the world! She's intent on wreaking havoc in the classroom until Rodney and his robot set her straight.
Loved it! Perfect extension of Hooway for Wodney Wat and perfectly useable in my classroom!
