Words In The Dust - Audio (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I enjoyed this more than I expected to. While based on true events, it is based loosely enough that the author wrote a good, compelling, suspenseful story. While the author is not an Afghani girl, he managed to write from the main character's perspective smoothly and emotionally. And while I don't know the details of Afghani culture, the author acquainted me with several of them well and, I should hope, accurately. I enjoyed the book. I wasn't planning to read this at all. It all just happened when my sister bought it and read the first few pages and decided she does not want to read "sad stuff". She put on it my desk and told me "You'll like it" As soon as I started reading it I couldn't stop. It felt like I was being taken very far away from home, It took me to Afghanistan, It's like I've really been there in Zulaikha's compound. It's like I've lived in each one of her struggles and have shared every tear of joy she's shed. All in all, it's an inspiring, beautifully told story that will make you cry and make your heart ache. But it's totally worth it.
