3.5/4Man, am I sick of owls...I kind of expected more from this. I mean, you only hear wonders from everyone, you expect something great. It was just ok. Batman is not really my cup of tea, he is always so dark and intense and everything is so dramatic that I think he could do with a bit of humor...
Oh, look, a vampire anti-hero. That's new.Oh, and look, there's two fridgings, the destruction of a close female friendship due to hidden bitterness, and a love story between a man in his (at least) 50s and a woman in her 20s, whom he helped raise. In small defense, he doesn't go for it. But ther...
Am I missing something here? Sure the art is great, but the story, continued from the first volume, continues to be ridiculous. First the Court of Owls has apparently been around Gotham for generations, and neither Batman nor Bruce Wayne had come across any sign of them before. Now we learn that ...
I'm loving this series, which is saying something for me, since it has vampires in it. I love how the story moves through different cities and regions of the US as well as different time periods. Scott Snyder writes a mean script, and I'm impressed with, and really enjoying, that the stories ar...
Holy smokes! I mean I knew Sean Murphy was talented, but good god did he kill it on the story he drew. Rafael Albuquerque was his usual amazing self on his section of the book. So what I'm saying is if you like art, read this book. That said, the story was also really awesome. Very action oriente...
So brilliant. I can't even. Great Batman story brings him back to his roots of being the worlds greatest detective.
Cool mix of vampire/monster style story in the early 1900 Western era, with an interesting mix of two story arcs with two separate timelines (written by two different authors) that intertwine in a compelling way. I was a little skeptical at first but was sold by the end of issue 5 in this volume....
Title - American Vampire, Vol. 1Author - Scott Snyder & Stephen KingIn the introduction to this graphic novel Stephen King writes - "...Here's what vampires shouldn't be: pallid detectives who drink Bloody Marys and only work at night; lovelorn southern gentlemen; anorexic teenage girls; boy-toys...
Better than I expected. Going for vol. 2 ASAP Absolutely vile. The gorgeous covers are not worth it in the slightest.
Not quite as great as the first volume (one soap opera bat-twist too many), but still solid. Solid follow-up. Probably one too many threads for me, but it wasn't a deal-breaker.
Very good. Liked the story and character development. Great art. Recommend to any Batman fan. I thought I would've liked it more. I ended up skipping a lot of the second half of the book.
I think, I might give up on these kind of comics. Completely uninterested in whatever happened there and again - seemed rushed. An the art is a bit too, cartoony (?) for my taste. Maybe because it's a new villain, but tries to sell it as something that has gone way back and maybe that's the tough...
3.5 stars. Vol 2 of 6. We have now arrived at 1936. Pearl has moved out of L.A. with her love Henry. In this volume we are introduced to some new characters and new locale of Las Vegas. Vampire hunters in the mix. It's a bit hard to follow at times cause you don't know who's a good guy or b...
Not a bad re-birth to one of my favorite characters in comics (the other being John Constantine). Art is good and Snyder has a great mythology that he is putting together... But at times, everything seems a bit rushed. Perhaps that's the way newer comics are written, but I would have preferred th...
I have a few problems with this volume: 1) The first mini-arc that delves into the 1800's again kind of ruins the Skinner-Book story. They were adopted brothers?? Nothing we've read previously makes any damn sense with that new story addition. Plus, the story doesn't go anywhere. 2) That being s...
I'm surprised this got such good reviews! I mean, the art is great....Go Capullo!! But the story is kinda crap! Another retelling of the origin of Batman? Cmon, we know already.... lets get on with it! And what a lame retelling it is with the whole post-apocalyptic Mad Max Gotham thing going on! ...
DC has, through their New 52 line, given us a few fresh stories about the superheroes whom we worship/cherish. Unfortunately, this book fails to do so, despite the revisionist approach aimed at giving Batman and some of his antagonists new 'origin'-s. It reads like the "Year One" volumes that had...
I wish I could give Zero Year a better rating...but I just can't. The Arc starts on a pretty dull note; yet another re-telling of Batman's origin story? No thanks, I've seen it a hundred times before. The best moments of the first half are all Jim Gordon and his adjustment to Gotham City.However,...
American Vampire Vol. 5 is one of the best volumes of the series. Snyder finally brings together the major plot points that began in the first volume. There were moments when I was cheering, "Oh, hell yes!" and two pages later cursing Scott Snyder and his well-written way of crushing all your hop...
The Joker has been gone for a year. Where has he gone? Is he alive? Dead? Not much is known, except his influence lives on in the heart's of Gotham's most deranged and mentally ill, which Batman must contend with. When the Joker eventually does resurface, instead of coming after his greatest foe,...
I couldn't wait to jump into this after the rather amazing first volume of the series. I tore through this in one sitting, I just couldn't wait to find out what was in store for Alec Holland.Volume two isn't quite as good as its predecessor; however, it is still very enjoyable if not because of ...
Starting with the 1990's animated Batman series the Riddler became my favorite Batman villain. Sure, the Joker is the great nemesis, and Bane is the one who broke the bat, but the Riddler has no brawn, no agility, just an extremely sharp mind which brings out the detective side of DC's proclaimed...
Tony stark and Rhodes and few other people go on an adventure in British Honduras to search for a treasure,a mask of incredible power, but one of the members turns evil. They fight a little but evil wins. We see later see noir pepper pots and beloved characters. We know baron zemo is a villan, bu...
Scott Snyder’s protagonists inhabit a playfully deranged fictional world in which a Wall Street trader can find himself armed with a speargun, guarding a Dumpster outside a pawnshop in Florida; or an employee at Niagara Falls (his job: watching for jumpers) will take off in a car after a blimp in...
