168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

This book started really strong, but began to dwindle near the end. Some practices I want to put into place, and some I disagree with (I don't think it's unreasonable to expect most people to manage their own cooking and cleaning), but overall a very engaging narrative about how to make the most of the time we are given, and that it is surprisingly more than we think. Recommend it for anyone looking to better manage their time or just do some streamlining, but take the authors own advice, and be aware you'll need to tailor it to work for you and your 'core competencies'. This was a quick read. Nothing especially groundbreaking, but it was a good reminder to look some of the ways I waste time in activities that don't make me or my family happy. Things I liked:*TV is a huge time-waster, and is not nearly as relaxing as we think it is. It's much better to relax with a book, meditation, quality time with your spouse or kids, creating art, etc.*We have more hours than we think to do the things we want. Cut out lazy or unimportant things like Facebook, TV or mindless web-surfing.*Outsource things that aren't your specialty (like a business). Stay at home moms, read to your kids and pay someone to do your housework. I can definitely get behind that philosophy!*Do what you love, and organize your time so that only the things that are the most important (family meals, becoming a writer, church, exercise, QT with spouse/kids) get your attention.*Realize the difference between work and busy-work, between time and quality time.Things I didn't buy:*You can have it all. While I appreciate the hopeful message that there is more time in a week than we think, I don't think I really WANT to have it all. I prefer to simplify life in general. A less-is-more attitude.

What do You think about 168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think (2010)?

This was a new and useful way to think about time. If only I could remember to do the time log.

Not really what I expected the book to be like, but it was pretty good still.
