24/6: A Prescription For A Healthier, Happier Life (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
This book meant a lot to me. As a Christian, I try to follow what the Bible says to do, but I am only human and constantly fail. This book encourages us to follow the fourth commandment about keeping the Sabbath, and it does it in a way that is gentle and not condemning. Although I do go to church, I usually treat Sunday as just another day, and this outlines how life can be different if we use it as a true day of rest and a time to connect with God. I understand the irony that I had to speed-read this to finish it and the other required reading before Annual Conference. I'm sure it deserves a higher rating, but I was really hoping that the author would eventually devoted more time to specific, creative ways of practicing Sabbath. While the foundation of the material was fascinating and new, and I appreciated the author's personal background, the applications were the same I've heard time and again. That doesn't make them bad. In fact, I am in agreement that Sabbath keeping should be a higher priority in my life. Yet in the end I was left a bit disappointed.
