"A Bad Day For Voodoo", by the always entertaining Jeff Strand, is actually, literally, laugh-out-loud funny! It's like one of those bad-things-happen-to-poor-jackasses movies where more and more hilarious, ridiculous things keep happening to him-except there's no Ben Stiller(yay!), and dark, comedic, voodoo shenanigans take the place of the sappy guy pines for girl storyline. Everything I read by this man makes me laugh, and cringe. Very few people can do cringe comedy well. No, let's just call it horror comedy- there's too many genres already. Check it out! The book starts well with a crazy friend trying to help out by obtaining a working voodoo doll of their math teacher. Everything goes down hill from there ending with a chase across the town to return the doll to the store. There are encounters with carjackers, crazy taxi drivers, a family involved with human sacrifice and other craziness. However, the author tries too hard to be funny in the vein of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but does not quite succeed with me.
What do You think about A Bad Day For Voodoo (2000)?
Really funny and twisted - good pick for reluctant guy-readers.
