I really enjoyed the storyline and the depth of description in A Burnable Book. It's written in the way I enjoy where the story keeps pulling you forward as you try to untangle the clues along with the protagonist. The only real knock I have about it is the number of characters and their appearance of changing allegiances makes it hard to follow in the first half. I'm considering reading a second time to pick up all the tidbits I missed or didn't understand the relevance of on the first read. I don't usually read historical mysteries because I prefer historical fiction that is told closer to what might have actually happened. I chose to read this because of the author's medieval studies credentials and I did find his detail of day to day lie fascinating. I think I would have liked this book better if I had read the author's notes first so that I knew what who or what was fact or fiction in this book.
If you enjoy reading books that place during this time period, you will enjoy this one.

Not a BAD book. But, personally, I didn't find it to be very engaging.
