This cozy mystery stars Bernie and Libby Simmons, sisters and owners of A Little Taste of Heaven, a Longely, New York, catering company. The plot opens as the sisters are hired to prepare a Thanksgiving feast for Monty Field and his family at the Field mansion. Monty is a local millionaire who made his fortune in the fireworks industry. Monty gives new meaning to the term cheap, keeping a tight rein on his money and his family. It is later revealed that Monty had a run-in with the sisters' parents in the past, refusing to pay for a previously catered meal. When Monty comes into the kitchen to test the roasting turkey, Bernie and Libby are shocked as Monty taps the pop-up button in the bird's breast and the turkey explodes, blowing off the top of his head. At first, the family tries to blame the sisters. However, a duplicate turkey is found in the garage. As the sisters investigate, they find that the entire family had reasons to want Monty dead. A heavy snowstorm traps everyone in the mansion, and a near miss to murder the sisters leads to a final confrontation. Recipes are provided. I didn't really enjoy this book. I don't think I will be looking for others in this series. I kept losing interest in the story. I did finish the book. I rarely ever abandon a book, it has to be horrible before I do. The two sisters were so casual after a small bomb exploded blowing off half the man's head, it was ridiculous. I have read stories and watched shows where the characters joke at crime scenes to deal with shock, these two started like that but kept going so long I thought the police would never get called. And then they stood there eating chocolates, in the same room where the corpse was. I felt like shouting "did you forget about the dead guy". Most parts were just tedious adding nothing to the story. And the ending didn't work, it was surprising but not supported by the story.
What do You think about A Catered Thanksgiving (2010)?
I really didn't care to much for this book. To me, it was extremely slow moving.
