A Constant Heart (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

This I think is my favourite of the three Siri Mitchell books I've read. After reading "She Walks In Beauty", I was hooked. So I loaned this on an inter library loan, and completely enjoyed myself. Although the story, characters and events are all, at times, depressing, they reflect life. People aren't perfect and life isn't either. It's actually pretty darn awful at times. And Siri Mitchell reflects that perfectly. So once again, I loved the story. Sad and happy at the same time. As well, I learned a ton about stuff that I had no idea even took place. All about queen Elizabeth and the horrors of painting ( not the art!) and dying ones hair!! And to think people still did that? A great story, authentic and just enjoyable. Very rarely do I want to put down a book for lack of certain details or situations, but this one I did. Well, I didn't put it down but picking it up to read as almost excruciating because I just wanted to get through it.This was free on Amazon Kindle and thank goodness because I would have regretted buying it.The characters were flat, the plot was boring, and goodness me, where are the lovely descriptions? This is the 3rd Siri Mitchell book I've read and this one happens to be not good at all. I preferred the main character's lady maid to any of the character because she had some spunk (although I do questions her knowledge of court life). Also, how did Marget not know the motive of Lady de Winter? I saw it from the very beginning and what a shame that Marget kept going along. Also this is labeled as Christian fiction? Whatever for? There is nothing that denotes any of the characters' devotion or love for God except the occasional clichés.I was so relieve at the end. I would have given this 1 star but the fact that I really like Queen Elizabeth and what she did for England (although that wasn't really showcased in this book) makes me give it 2 stars.
