This is the first of Timothy Keller's books I've read. If all his works are like this, I am comfortable recommending him to anyone who wants to understand the Bible better. In King's Cross, he walks the reader through the book of Mark with a fine-toothed comb, just the kind of in-depth study I was looking for. He explicates the nature of Christ in a way that makes him at once both accessible and awe-inspiring. Most of all, I appreciated his explanations of what Christ was really doing when he cursed the fig tree, prayed in the Garden of Gesthemane, etc. It's one thing to understand that Christ had a purpose in everything he did and said on Earth. It's quite another to actually grasp what those purposes might be, and what they mean for you specifically, today. After reading this book, I can read the book of Mark with a much better understanding of what's going on in this Gospel. Very helpful. I honestly never thought I would rate a Keller book only a 3, but this wasn't my favorite of his. I even struggled to finish the last few chapters. Overall, I preferred the first half when he was talking about the kingdom of God to then second when he was focusing on the cross. There were a few key points that really jumped out at me and I am thankful for those, but I wouldn't overly recommend the book.
What do You think about A Cruz Do Rei (2011)?
Another great book by Timothy Keller! His books always leave me loving Christ more!
