Quirky fun. I would have given it four stars, due to the expected fun I will have with it in storytime. However, there is a missing "a" on one of the pages. On one of the cat pages, it reads "A cat is cat. . ." instead of "A cat is a cat" Since all of the other instances follow the pattern of "A (blank) is a (blank)" it is clearly a mistake. And while I can sometimes overlook typos in longer books, it really makes a difference here! If you read it as written, it makes the rhythm falter. It won't keep me from using the title, recommending it, or putting it on display. But it is a mistake that should have been caught by the editorial staff, and as such, I just can't rate it higher than 3 stars. A dog can’t be anything other than a dog, right? Well, maybe it’s not that simple. Young readers follow along as the dog changes from one animal to another, laughing all the way. This is the perfect picture book for kids because it has simple words and rhymes that will get them reading on their own soon. A Dog is a Dog will have them laughing out loud and eager to turn the pages. Shaskan’s lyrical prose is complemented by adorable artwork that is just as zany as the story itself.Highly recommended!
What do You think about A Dog Is A Dog (2011)?
this book cracks me up. And, so much the better as it stars a puppy, so my son loves to read it.
