I love the illustrations in this. I'm sure I've read other books with the same illustrator. What grabbed my attention was the title, since my NGA this week is "Monster Hunters." Though this isn't quite as monstery & gore as the boys might expect, I thought it would be a twist to begin the program with this book. It is funny to see the animals' telephonesque additions of the monter's sounds. I figured reading the book would be a good gathering activity while I wait for the late-comers. They'll probably guess the ending as I did, but that just makes the story more fun as it inflates. When Duck hears a snuffling sound under her bed, she runs for help to Pig, who runs for help to Bear...as the story is shared, the story grows, until the "pssh pssh" has become a horrible, deadly, monster sound! All the animals come to save the day, but it may turn out that this strange noise has been seriously exaggerated. This book is a little long for a storytime, but it would still be a successful choice because of the cumulating rhythm of the story.
What do You think about A Grande Caça Ao Monstro (2010)?
another favorite. I LOVE PIG!! I would be freaking out just like him!!
