Absolutely loved everything about this! The lyrical and true-to-period writing style, the unique premise, the (sometimes achingly) slow build romance, the dynamic characters...everything was fantastic. Martha, despite coming across as cold and prickly, is one of my favorite heroines ever. She has a huge heart and a sound mind, and goes after what she wants with endless strength. I also loved Theo as a hero, and how much he changed over the course of the story. This is definitely a new favorite. My only wish would be for an epilogue, but I'm sure we will get caught up on the characters in the sequels. 'A Lady Awakened' was an uncommonly well-developed romance in the sense that Ms Grant really took her time building the romance and on developing the characters as persons. I loved that the reader is so involved in the process of these 2 people falling in love with each other. There is none of the "and she realized she was in love" sentiment that often comes out of the blue with many romance novels today. also, you *understand* why they would come to love each other -- and these reasons go beyond the fact that the protagonists are easy on the eye. This book was a gem and I look forward to reading the rest of Ms Grant's work.
What do You think about A Lady Awakened (2011)?
I loved this book. It is one I will read over and over again!!! The characterization was awesome.
