A Mackenzie Family Christmas: The Perfect Gift (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Once again we have Ian at the center of attention. Don’t get me wrong…I LOVE Ian as if he walked this earth for real; however…It would be nice if he wasn’t ALWAYS the center of attention in these books. This book should have been titled “Christmas with Ian & Beth”…the whole MacKenzie clan is there but it’s more about Ian still opening up and understanding things around him. I believe in this story he has come a long way. He converses more with the family, they have two wonderful children that he adores..he’s a great father and husband to Beth. Ian and Beth both have grown in their marriage, however there is still a connection missing between them. I think when Mac finally confronts Ian about his inward emotions towards the ming bowl being broken, and Ian went to talk with Beth about it..he should have thrown that ming bowl cabinet to the ground right in front of Beth letting her know that before he met her, he needed those bowls as a purpose in his life, but now that he has Beth the ming bowls does not have the same value as they did before she same..now those ming bowls are just a hobby but she is his purpose in life…that would have been so romantic and sweet to affirm that kind of love with Beth…unfortunately that didn’t happen, he still struggles to understand what everyone was so upset about. I actually liked Daniel in this book too…he’s 18 now and just as comical and cute… So all in all this entire novella fell flat for me. I hope the next novella doesn’t surround Ian so much…even though I love him! Lol I loved this Christmas-themed story and a lot of foreshadowing is written here. All the MacKenzies celebrating with their children made me feel festive. I wasn't able to mention this in my review of the previous story (The Duke's Perfect Wife) but I love Ian the most. Ms Ashley wrote his perspective very well and he's often misunderstood and misinterpreted because he doesn't think like normal persons. This story is aptly titled cause the couples gave the perfect gifts. I'm intrigued by the possibilities of the love matches and as always, reading about the MacKenzies, is a pleasure.
