As a library technician who often sees (but rarely has to deal with) the atrocities done to books on a regular basis, this made me laugh. I then had to show the book to all the other staff who all enjoyed it to varying degrees. It is a great book to use in starting a discussion on how to care for books or, if you care to take things a little deeper, how mistakes and accidents don't have to be detrimental. Every children's librarian and media specialist needs this book. It may become my new go-to read-aloud for library tours. Louie is enjoying his story in the book until he encounters a blob. Sniff sniff, lick lick - it's jelly?! And then a blob of peanut butter. And fingerprints and orange juice."We need to show some respect here. Books are important." Louie says.(Can I get an amen?)In the end, Louie realizes his story is still a pretty good story, "messes and all" and the reader is still reading. Good one!
Every librarian who frets about damaged books should read this laugh-out-loud story! Loved it!
