I love a good wordless picture book, and this one is easy to love. A cat befriends an orphaned bird whose feathered friends have flown south for the winter and left him behind while he was napping. The benevolent cat guides the frightened little creature on a journey to rejoin his flock. It's a sweet story, the drawings are simple, and the kindness radiates from every page. The ending, though real and not very dramatic, is happy. It's one to look at again and again, so dear is its content. A picture book known as a wordless book can be great fun to read with a pre-reader. They can read the pictures with you and help tell the story. Patrick McDonnell's stories are always so sweet. I love them for storytime, although sometimes they make me tear up when I'm supposed to be reading. You might as well buy his books in pairs when you do buy 'em, I guarantee you'll want to give them to the people you love.
What do You think about South (2008)?
This is "WHY YOU SO FLUFFY!!!" kind of cute.
