A Resistência - Ninguém Pode Decidir Por Ti (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

WOW! this book is way better than the first! I loved the introductions of the new characters and was totally struck when I found out about Jude. Reading the the last couple of chapters brought everything together perfectly. I nearly cried when I knew Dr Edwards was going to die, really he was a nice man.It had you constantly guessing until the very end. I can't wait to read the last book and find out what happens to Longevity and Mr. Pincet. I hope Peter and Anna can put an end to non-ageing madness and I hope Jude a Sheila get on well. Oh, we mustn't forget Pip, I can't wait to see him fulfil his dreams with the help of The Underground. This book is to be paired with Starters. The Resistance shows a future that is age obsessed. In fact, the people in this dystopian future turn to pills to stop themselves from aging. Giving up the ability to reproduce seems a small price to pay for eternal youth. However, in this future, it’s not enough to stop aging, they must reverse the process as well. Like in Starters, harvesting the young seems to be the only solution. Peter and Anna try to stop Pharma Corp and its unnatural practices. This book is great pairing with Starters, but I would also recommend it to any teen who liked Haddix’s Shadow Children series as a middle-schooler. A 7th grade English teacher who wants to do a unit on dystopian fiction would do well to include Starters and The Resistance. The two books examine ageism from different points of view and gives teachers a great way to compare and contrast. While Starters focuses on the old trying to be young by inhabiting the bodies of young hosts, The Resistance shows a future where everyone is fighting to stay young by taking pills. One book shows us a technological solution for staying young, the other a pharmaceutical.I would also put The Resistance in the hands of a student who just finished Starters and wanted a new book “like” that one.
