I enjoyed this book in the series. Chances are, if you made it this far, you will continue to enjoy the evolving storyline. At times, the circumstances that surround Alan's life are totally unbelievable, but because of the story it makes me think about life in different ways. Primarily, it makes me think that if I had lost everything what journey would my soul have to go through to find peace and joy again. The themes in this novel are uplifting and good, because mainly it is about the human condition and rising above our weaknesses and doubts in the face of extreme adversity and pain. I'm giving this book a SOLID 5 STARS before even finishing it... such a wonderful story. It is about a man who walks across country after the death of his wife and his best friend stealing his business. There are two women that have fallen for Alan Christoferson and I have too.. and I'm not gay... LOL!!! Love the man as my brother or friend on his journey, love the storylines and story telling about the walk across the country.. such a departure on the murder mysteries that I read. Not a hint of dirty language which is refreshing. I love the history lesson of each town... his experiences.. the characters... some which the author dives into but many this book he did not... I guess the one criticism is that he left us hanging in most of the relationships formed on this leg... However this book was more about Alan finding himself... what he is going through, etc. This book even had humor and 1 part of suspense with the cult that he ran into.If you read the book START from the beginning of the series. Don't start here. *** SPOILER *** In this book a love triangle is revealed. When Alan is diagnosed with a brain tumor, his secretary Falene and a woman who took care of him Nichole reappear. They both confess their love towards him. He doesn't know what to feel at this point. He just lost his wife. Now I remember the book very well with Nichole but I must of missed the one with Falene. There is a cliff hanger at the end of the book and his walk is yet again interrupted.. I appreciate the storyline with Alan's dad.I hope he ends up with Nichole though... but we will see.
