I read this book after having read the first book in this series. In some ways this felt like the first book and An Alpha's Path felt like a prequel. I really enjoyed this shifter book. It had a lot of adventure along with the romance. I liked this one better than the first for a few reasons. One of those reasons is that I felt like I really got to know the Alpha's family and got to see how they all interacted with one another. I also liked how we got to see more about the pack as a whole and hear some of their histories. Oh and the bad guys are truly evil! Yes, I love the darkness.This book was very adult in spots. There is no doubt what the characters are doing at times. 18 plus for certain sure. This is the second book in the Redwood Pack series and it really delivers. Such a great story that had depth. Jasper is a really interesting character and Willow has such inner strength making her a great match for him. I loved the dynamic of all the characters.This book has a very different feel from the first book because it takes a very dark turn. The plot involves a power struggle with another pack that I suspect will carry through several books. There are some really heavy scenes due to this conflict and some may be uncomfortable for folks. Torture is never a favorite thing to read, for me personally.Sometimes it is a little tricky to figure out the timeline and determine how much time has passed. I loved the supporting characters and can not wait for their stories. The Jamesons are a big family and I hope we get all the siblings romances. Gotta say I am crushing on a few of the brothers!The steamy is there but doesn't take over the story. There is plenty of meat on the bones of this tale. Really enjoyable love scenes that do not overpower the overall plot.It leaves you with a cliffhanger and a tease for the next book. Now I have to jump into the next one ASAP, lucky me it is already out so I do not have to wait.
I love Jasper...something about a big strong man protecting his mate that gets the blood flowing. ;)
