This was an interesting tale of a rather small event (by 'small' I mean a lot of major character-impacting events occur in a short period of time). The characters are explored and developed somewhat, but I really didn't feel much for anyone. The excitement of the chase had me interested, but as I was reading I realized I really didn't care what happened. If the story had some kind of twist... not sure even that would have helped. I get the feeling this story was done more for the fun of working with Matheson's original concept rather than really wanting to put something out that was new and exciting. Nasty little novella inspired by the Richard Matheson short story, "Duel." While traveling to Show Low, Arizona after a meth deal gone double homicide, a motorcycle gang of military veterans encounters a mysterious semi-truck driver who declares war on them.While the novella does have a lot of intense action, the characters are one-dimensional and so it doesn't really matter whether they die or not. Hill and King tell us that the motorcycle gang is family, but never really show us how they are family. The "big reveal" at the end of the novella is too pat and too clean for the messy world that Hill and King create.
