A Warrant To Kill: A True Story Of Obsession, Lies And A Killer Cop - Plot & Excerpts

Mornings they slept, strewn about, fortifying themselves after a long night of partying. Late afternoons they stumbled into the kitchen in search of breakfast. Often they found little more than stale bread and sour milk. That summer, Susan thought little of food. She lived on her pills: the amphetamines that gave her energy to face each day, the Valium that helped her sleep, and the lithium the doctor had prescribed in March to fight her depression. Left to fend for themselves, her constant houseguests would make a food run to McDonald’s or Burger King, and soon empty, abandoned fast-food containers overflowed garbage cans and littered kitchen counters and tabletops.
Jason’s best friend continued to be Mike Shaffer. Having Jason as a friend came in handy for Shaffer. Not only did Susan supply him with a place to live, but he and Jason were about the same size, both slight, so much so that they looked years younger than their ages of seventeen and nineteen. This made it convenient for Shaffer, who helped himself to the shopping bags of new clothes charged on Ron’s credit cards.
