Abducted (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Officer Carly Edwards is back. She's back to the job she loves--patrolling during the graveyard shift and she's still getting the feel of her new found faith in God. She's working on her relationship with Nick, her ex-husband, but there's some tension as he struggles to recover from being shot. This time out, she has to find her partner's baby who was taken from the hospital while his wife was in ICU. Her roommate Andrea is suspended because she was on shift when the baby was taken and there is some new tension between the two of them that Carly can't figure out. Then she has to evaluate her relationship with reporter Alex Trejo who has told her that he's interested in being more than just friends. As she continues her invest, she stumbles into an FBI surveillance operation and ICE gets involved as well. On top of all this, her faith is still shaky and she starts to wonder where is this God that she's recently been putting all this faith and trust in.Janice Cantore does a good job of writing Carly and the struggles she faces, not only in her personal life but as well as in her faith. As a woman who spent a lot of time doing everything she could to say God didn't exist and calling those who believed in him 'Bible-thumpers', Carly has a hard time putting her faith into Him instead of action. I like how she has intimate discussions with God on doing what she knows he would want and how she keeps asking him to show her what path he wants her to follow. She also does a good job of putting her and Nick's relationship into His hands even though it's killing her that Nick's trying to push her away and a small part of her is afraid that he will hurt her again.I like how Janice uses her experiences as a police officer to keep the procedures fairly realistic. She also did a good job of writing Joe's struggles--staying with his wife or searching for his son--and finally allowing him to stay with his wife who needed him to be there for support and letting him put his faith in his partner and the rest of the officers to find his son. Abducted: 2 {Pacific Coast Justice} by Janice CantoreThis book is a Christian crime fiction. It is action packed, fast paced and full of inspiration. Carly patrol partner Joe’s baby is abducted. When Joe’s wife and son are admitted to the hospital baby AJ is kidnapped. The kidnapper has ties to their burglary case they were working on. During the investigation they discover bigger crimes. Carly is a new Christian who divorced her ex husband after his infidelity. Nick and Carly are trying to piece their lives and marriage back together. They face issues of forgiveness, trust, and being able to communicate with each other. The author’s faith really comes through in this book. The characters struggles inspire the readers to take a closer look at their own faith issues. They experience real life conflict many Christian are faced with. Janice Cantore uses her experience as a police officer to give readers a first hand view of police protocol. We are given glimpses of the danger policemen and women face on a daily bases. If you like mystery, suspense and a little romance then this is the book for you. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to read another in this series.
