Accepting His Human (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Book four in the series picks up right where book three left off pursuing the disappearance of Grady's detective partner. This is Dr. Ailean Carmichael's story and it was hilarious to discover that the crusty doctor's newly discovered mate was human. As with the rest of the series, it is a fast-action romance because of the fated mate, but there are various obstacles that come between the two to make it not as simple as just finding the mate.In this case, the obstacle is not just Ailean's dislike for humans. Actually, poor Ailean accepted his little human, Drake, quickly until he discovered that his human is a scientist who did contract work for a company that captures and experiments on shifters and humans including Grady's partner, Lyle, who starts the story by hijacking Drake to bring him to Grady.I enjoyed the plot and the characters. Sweet and innocent Drake who is filled with wonder that he has attracted the big handsome doctor. He understands little of what is going on under the surface of things, but accepts it as he does Ailean. Ailean was hurt and misunderstood by humans. He prefers to be alone until he meets Drake. Big, curmudgeonly Ailean doesn't know what to do with his little human mate, but for once he's willing to go with it. It was nice to have the newly mated Gordon and Grady in the story as well as other former pairs from previous books. I look forward to finding out what happens next with poor Todd and Lyle as well as maybe Drake's brother, Dagus.Enjoyable read! As with the other stories in this series, this one was cute. I liked the story because it forced Ailean to get passed his distaste for humans since his mate is a human. I also liked the fact that Drake had an unintentional part in the issues related to these new superhuman people the pack has been in contact with in the past. Then there's the fact that Lyle was found again and what he now is. While the story isn't original, I liked the simplistic style of the story. It was easy and nice to read. That's not to say it doesn't have its faults. The book needed better editing especially with name mix ups and missing words from sentences. I was also confused sometimes on who was saying what. It could have been my format but I also think it was an over use of the pronoun 'he'. I wished there would have been more details about everything. Like for instance with the whole Lyle situation. There wasn't even a hint that he was growing scales until it was stated they were receding. And how Drake did not know what his findings were being tested towards blows my mind because aren't scientists anal about that sort of thing?Still, in the end, I liked the story. Ailean was a bit of an asshole but I liked the added issue of his mate being human with all the things humans have done to him. I'm looking forward to reading Lyle and Todd's story. Seriously, this series is addicting even if they aren't exactly extravagant.
