What a book! I wasn't sure of this book but, again, about 1/3 of the way through I became hooked and couldn't put it down. I really liked how the author had Jane Austen as Ellie's conscience, best friend and sometimes mother all the way through this book. I liked how, on many occasions, Ellie ignored the words of warning that Jane Austen had for her protege but with the mistakes Ellie made in her love life it was okay because Ellie needed to grow and find her own voice. Keeping in mind Jane Austen's era some things in relationships had changed but some have not. I think Jane Austen is wise but sometimes over cautious with Ellie but then again things have changed since 1814.As I read this book I began to enjoy what insights Jane Austen had for Ellie. I loved the mental arguing that went on in Ellie's head and who better to choose for a mentor than Jane Austen when it comes to love?I think this is a wonderful and unique book. I find Marilyn Brant to be a gifted author and I am looking forward to reading her second book. I liked this better than I thought I would. Funnily enough, the thing I disliked the most was all the Jane Austen conversations going on in her head! Go figure. At first I was annoyed that I already knew exactly how it was going to end and that made it hard to keep turning the pages, but I got over that and just tried to enjoy it for what it was. The end was even cheesier than I might have guessed but I was SO in the mood for cheesy, I didn't even care. It was a quick, fun, VERY predictable read.
What do You think about According To Jane (2009)?
Cute and sassy. A teenage girl hears Jane Austen's voice making commentary on her modern life.
