Ada is a sassy, fat, preacher's wife, who's marriage is running on empty. But a school reunion in the offing kick-starts her into loosing weight. I loved this book. The drip feed of information about Ada's parents and her husband worked well, making Ada's weight loss a catalyst for sorting out her life and body into something far more satisfactory. We all need a kick up the bum at some stage, this was Ada's. This was a novel diguised as a diet book disguised as a novel. It is written as though autobiographical and indeed the author is like Ada, African American and has struggled with her weight. I wasn't sure about the book at first but Ada is so loveable and her positive approach to losing weight is uplifting and amusing. I especially enjoyed the section where she decides to establish whether her husband is cheating on her and if so with whom. It was a very different book and interesting to step boldly into Southern AA culture again through the story.
Very good story about self-love, romantic love and lifestyle changes! Highly recommended.
