The Advantage explains the importance of a healthy culture in your business. Including what makes for a good leadership team, why conflict is not a bad thing and how damaging fear and ego are (I think this should be required reading for every church leader). Practical applications and filled with good examples. Not everything is applicable, but I’m already sharing some important points from the book with the leaders in our company and it’s reassuring to read how we already are doing a lot of things right. This is another very helpful book by management consultant guru Patrick Lencioni. Depending on your current circumstance vis a vis organizational and/or team health you may well find this his most helpful book. I did. Lencioni suggests four key disciplines are necessary to the development and maintenance of organizational health; 1. Building a cohesive leadership team. 2. Creating clarity. 3. Over-communicating clarity. 4. Reinforcing clarity. A cohesive leadership team is defined by five principles of behavior; 1. Building trust. 2. Mastering conflict. 3. Achieving commitment. 4. Embracing accountability. and 5. Focusing on results. Beyond this, Lencioni speaks to the centrality of great team meetings and the necessity of the leader him/herself incarnating the very values/principles presented if the mission is to be accomplished.
This is classic Lencioni: simple, clear, concise, scalable, doable. Read it. Do it. Have fun.
