Way to go Tracey! Good debut book. While the publisher has categorized this new series as Urban Fantasy, I have to disagree - it is more like Nina Bangs' Gods of the Night Series in the Paranormal Romance category. Tracey has created a new paranormal mythos. While vampires and shifters themselves aren't new, her handling of them is original. Sometimes the new terminology was used without any explanation but it really didn't detract from the story and then I found the glossary at the end of the book. It would have been better to have it at the front like Gena Kresley Cole does in her Immortals After Dark series. If you have read several or all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark/Were Hunter series, you'll be right at home with her species names. Also I didn't get why this series was named the Dark Brethen until I read her second book in the series but like Shayla Black's Doomsday Brethren Series, book 1 of the series just sets up some of the main characters without introducing the what will be the main plot of the series. But that's ok because you don't know this until reading book 2 in the series. This first book has a strong heroine a la Jeaniene Frost's Cat character in her Night Huntress series. Antoinette's chemistry with several of the other characters, whether it be sexual or platonic, is enjoyable. And best of all the book starts off fast paced and keeps on going. I couldn't wait to get to her second book in the series - Death's Sweet Embrace and am now awaiting her 3rd book in the series due out in Aug 2011. Again don't let the UF label keep you from missing out on this new series. The action in the first scene is what drew me into this series. Was quite disappointed that it didn't progress this way. There was way too much going on in this series, and not enough action. Antoinette went from a renown hunter to a helpless woman. It's as if she forgot all her training and her reason for becoming a Venator. I don't really like how the story came together in the end, but still a good read.
What do You think about Aeternus - Eisiger Kuss (2009)?
An exciting read in a fully realized imagined world.

At times, predictable. But really enjoyed it.
