After Adam (A Teen Summer Romance) (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a very touching and sweet story about dealing with losing someone you love, and then finding love again. It's been about a year and a half since Anna's boyfriend, Adam, died. Anna seems to have moved out of her depression but not out of her survivor guilt. Every time she goes to have fun she thinks maybe she shouldn't, what would other people think? This summer is different though, because her mother insists she gets a job to pay her expenses. Anna goes to work at The Shack, a local greasy spoon and is shocked to find out that Adam's older brother, Camp is working there too. Getting a job actually helps Anna to start to move on with her life, she becomes involved with the day-to-day and can't spend large amounts of time missing or thinking about Adam. She gradually begins a friendship with Camp but is very hesitant because her feelings, against her will, start to change into something more than just friendship.Being a novella (approximately 27,000 words) didn't take away from this story at all. Katie did a great job making you feel and care about Anna and Camp. Even the secondary characters with the little time they had were well done (loved Lisa!). This was a thoroughly enjoyable book that drew you in right away. A definite recommend! I'll be on the lookout for the next Katie Aleo story! The most annoying this is that this could have been a real good story if the author had any idea how to write, there is terrible sentence structure in every paragraph and almost every sentence runs for ever and there is terrible problems with punctuation and often cheap books for kindle have issues with lack of editing but I believe that an editor would have to completely re-write every single paragraph on this book so it can't be used as an excuse this time around and I even think I would expect better from a year 7 student and the biggest problem with the run-on sentences is that it left mr breathless even though I wasn't reading allowed and that made all the dialogue in the entire story terrible and un-realistic and un-believable. Oh, did I mention the run-on sentences! This is a short book, a novella, but it took mr longer to read than full length novels because of the issues I mentioned above, mostly the run-on sentences (can you tell what my number 1 dislike was?). I suggest you don't buy this book, sure download it for free if you can but don't pay, it's not worth it. Oh and I've never given such a scathing review before, this was just TERRIBLE writing, it doesn't even deserve the one star minimum. Such a shame, the story idea was really interesting.
