Agatha Raisin As The Pig Turns (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Agatha Raisin discovers that the pig in the local hog roast is, in fact, a human body. Unfortunately, it's the body of PC Beech, who she recently said she'd murder herself and see roast in Hell. While still under suspicion, she's hired by Beech's first wife - Amy - to find the killer. But although Amy is lying, she is murdered and her body is discovered by Agatha. Now suspected of two murders, the police aren't even convinced when Beech's head arrives to her by post. Agatha and her team have to continue the hunt, despite the abduction of Roy Silver (who has a miraculous escape), the abduction of Chelsea (schoolfriend of Toni) in Las Vegas, and the knifing of Simon (young, posh, ex-employee, now an ex-squaddie) in a fun-fair while spying on behalf of a rival detective agency. Fortunately, while Simon is in hospital, the mystery is solved and the last killer caught. A typical Agatha Raisin romp. Can be read in a few hours. 5/10 (April 2014) I have really enjoyed the Agatha Raisin dramatizations, and so I turned to the books for a more full experience. However, I found this particular book to be lacking. The dynamic with Toni and Paul was simply odd...more awkwardly tossed into the plot than carefully considered. Toni's reactions to employees was an over dramatization, like a teenager not getting what she wanted. As well, the idea that so many Detective agencies could exist in the area was a bit of stretch. Overall, I thought it was okay, no the best...just a book for filling some time on a flight, or a boring Sunday afternoon.

What do You think about Agatha Raisin As The Pig Turns (2011)?

A bit more gruesome than some of the others, but nevertheless enjoyable light read.
