She’d woken this morning to the phone ringing and had answered it without thinking. Starting her day off with speaking to her uncle had not been the highlight of her day. Now she was making blackberry preserves and things were not going well. The berries seemed to be turning to mush much faster than she’d expected. “Of course it could be because I’m taking my aggressions out on them.” She looked over at the bowl she’d been using and smiled. “Poor things. It’s not their fault that my uncle is a fucking prick that thinks the world revolves around him.” Judith tossed the bowl of fruit across the room and watched it hit the wall. The art work it left behind made her laugh. She should have emptied it before getting that frustrated with it. But then, of course, she’d have no reminder of how shitty her morning was. And turning the berries into jelly instead of preserves wouldn’t have been that difficult. She looked over at her monitor when someone knocked at the door. She should have known that Kala would be back.
