I thought this story was ok. There were definitely some intense scenes, but overall, I don't feel like the main characters were flushed out very well. We didn't really learn all that much about them. Also, both of the main characters had some psychological problems which were addressed, but i felt like they were not mentioned a lot or very well. Grayson had PTSD throughout the whole book, but it wasn't alluded to very much throughout the story. I feel like it didn't influence his character as much as it should have. I mean, I guess part of the reason might be because of the whole "distract me from my problems" thing. The end of the book definitely did a better job then the rest of the book. But, it still wasn't exactly what I expected or wanted. (This might partly be due to the fact that I am a Psych major.) We learn next to nothing about any of the side characters. They basically just exist without much point. The writing style of the book also seemed... too simple? I don't know how else to explain it. Overall, I did really enjoy the story itself. It was a pretty good story, but I couldn't help notice the bad writing and the bad characters which took away from my enjoyment. I should've read more reviews on this book...or at least the front part of the book warning of rape. I can normally read angst or dark subject matter but this book just pissed me off. I understand the need for some tragedy but seriously...these characters were put through the ringer time and time again. Spoiler alert: The heroine wasn't just raped, she was gang raped while her badass war hero was forced to watch. At least the author could have made him get free, save his girl, and kick those guys' asses. Seriously I wished I had a better warning. I'm sure most people who pick up this book aren't looking for such dark subject matter so here's the warning I wish I had.
