I am such a sucker for an animal story - especially dogs! The heart of this book is good, but don't come to it looking for great literature. It's a pretty straight forward telling of a predictable story, but I love to hear about the bonds between human and animal. The author knows dogs from a human perspective, but having just read Temple Grandin's "Animals in Translation" he didn't show any insights into a dogs life from a dog perspective. I only go this book two days ago from First Reads and couldn't put it down! The author *almost* got me running to the SPCA to get a dog of my own (one who's turds are smaller than mine, mind you) if I wasn't such a cat lover! I couldn't help but love how one dog could spread so much love and joy to so many. It's blatantly obvious that the author truly loves dogs as it seeps through the whole book. I can fully appreciate this feeling as this is how I've felt for all my cats (past and present). This book would make a fabulous (Christmas)gift for any dog lover.
Really cute book. Sad at the end but not because anything bad happens to the dog.

Very good! I love stories about dogs and how they lighten the loads of humans.

Gave it up when the dog walked in on an old guy taking a dump.
