Disclaimer: I did not finish this book. I won't rate it because that wouldn't be fair....Truthfully, I smile when I hear Roy Blount Jr is a guest on NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. However, as Roy even says himself, this is not a book to be read cover to cover. It is a book to be picked up and dabbled in. I read (cover to cover) a book like this once - The Meaning of Tingo - and I did really like it, it just took awhile as it is like reading a dictionary. A fun dictionary, but one nonetheless. I think if I could have taken this out of the library longer (I've already had it for 3 months), I might have enjoyed it. However, as the library lady says, "ma'am, you need to give someone else a chance..." At first the book is clever but it gets old really fast. It's just Blount making a bunch of puns about this favorite words and occasionally going into the etymology. There is only one joke that saved this book from a one star rating."A chicken and an egg are lying in bed having a post-coital cigarette. A disgruntled looking egg looks at the chicken and says, 'Well, that settles it'."I did not think that joke was funny, but I thought it was brilliant.

This is a great one to listen to! Roy Blount Jr. just romps his way through it.
