This book had some great moments, and I really thought it was going to be four stars for a while, but there are some parts of the book that just, in my opinion, don't flow very well. They eventually stop being compelling and wind up moving into what-the-fuck territory, which screwed up my rating. I've never been able to keep up with the fight scenes in these books (maybe that's just me?) and always wind up skimming to avoid some really tedious moments, but Dory is a fantastic character and I love the family element in these books, and would really like to see more. The plot was interesting, if somewhat confusing at the beginning. Ray was an absolute legend. If he got his own book I would give it five stars just for his Grade A comedic relief. This is the first time where you'll really see the connection between this series and the Cassandra Palmer series by this same author. It's well done and the story stays well within Dorina's world, but it's there all the same. I enjoyed this story and the action is well-written. There's still a hint of romance in it for those of you who want that too, but you should be ready for some surprises! Well done!
