American Conspiracies: Lies, Lies, And More Dirty Lies That The Government Tells Us (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

I certainly don't subscribe to everything that was said in this book, I believe it is the reader's job to take everything with a grain of salt and use their own critical thinking skills to analyze the statements made and decide for themselves what information to accept or reject. I agree this is not the most intellectually challenging book, but in my opinion there is beauty in it's simplicity. This book covers a lot of topics, but doesn't go into great depth of any of them. Jesse Ventura asks important questions from a perspective a lot of people may not agree with or even considered previously. It would be I'll advised to either blindly accept Ventura's statements as absolute truth, but I it would be equally foolish to write everything off as "crazy conspiracy theories" without taking the time to perform the due diligence of researching the ideas possible validity. Well now. I love Conspiracy Theories. Mostly because it tests critical thinking. I will be the first to admit that Conspiracies do exist. Although generally in a much more mundane fashion that one would hope for. You know sort of like was their a conspiracy to end the existence of the Knights Templar. Oh sure, but it wasn't for anything much more spectacular than the King of France wanted their money. Jesse brings up some interesting points and then ruins them by taking things whole hog and going over the top with them. Like the Education system and the Government working together in not teaching us about the 'whole' conspiracy to kill Lincoln so that the American public would be more susceptible to the Lone Gunman type of assassin and thus making it easier for 'them' to get rid of JFK and Bobby. This ignores the fact that the Education system is limited in space to the topics they can cover and how much information they can pass along. It also would have required a great deal of malice aforethought. Something that generally doesn't seem to play out all that well no the National Government level. A book that is equal parts annoyance and entertainment. The worst part about it from my point of view, is generally I like Conspiracy Theories in relation to how much I can use them for story ideas. Here nothing was fertile for that endeavor.

too bad I can't do "stopped reading" and "what was I thinking" for the same book.
