DNF:14%Amy and Matthew: A Love Story is the story of a girl with cerebral palsy and a boy who suffers from OCD. They have never talked before in school but when he confronts her about herself she decides to make a change. Amy persuaded her mother to get rid of her adult aides and get pupils from her school to look after her instead. I don't think any parent that had a child with disabilities would allow teenagers to take over and look after their child! This book was such a slow read and after hearing many great things about it I couldn't wait to read it. I was really disappointed. It didn't seem to move past the point of aides and training. Really 3.5 stars, I think. I went back and forth about this one as I was reading it. I LOVED the concept, though I thought that the treatment of OCD was sometimes troubling. Nonetheless, there were still so many wonderful moments between Amy and Matthew, particularly in the first half of the book. I didn't love where things went in the second half---I didn't feel like all of Amy's decisions were true to her character---but I felt that the ending mostly redeemed things for me. It was really a mixed bag for me: huge points for the characters and the beautiful writing, but still some considerable negatives where the direction of the story was concerned. On an unrelated note, although I love this cover, I find the title of the book to be totally forgettable. As in---the entire time that I was reading it, I literally could not remember what it was called. That's unusual for me.
