Three and half stars. I think I was just in the right mood for a well written regency romance and this fit the bill. There's only so much you can do with the plots of these novels and I thought this one was at least a bit different. Where it fell down for me for some reason was toward the end. My interest just tapered off. Might have been me rather than the book. I liked the characters, I liked their interactions. I believed in the love that grew between them. Cate was just a gem! Apart from his name, which threw me all the way through the story! Cate and Prudence are practical likeable people and I like them as a couple. The book is well written and historically accurate. It just struck me as dry and never lit a fire under me. The gentry surrounding them are one dimensional characters who don't add to the tapestry. The passion is muted for a good practical reason but since the steamy details are usually part of a good romantic novel it left me wanting. This is my first exposure to the author, I won't go out of my way to read anything else.
Some of the most likeable characters thus far. I enjoyed this one.
