Angels' Flight (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

A very nice few stories, I particularly loved Noel/Nimra and Jessamy/Galen!!Angels' PawnI read Archangel's Shadow before, without truly knowing what history Janvier and Ash had. It wasn't a necessary read but still a nice one to understand better how they grew closer.Angels’ JudgmentI have been wanting to read Sara and Deacon's story for a while and I wasn't disappointed but a bit sad it was so short!! Anyway, I still love them and the support they always show towards Elena.Angel’s Wolf Noel is not so broken and Nimra is not so scary. Both of them learn to trust each over and to discover something different. Beautiful story of an angel falling for a vampire.Angels’ Dance I loved Galen and Jessamy!!! You could guess they had history from what you can gather in Archangel's Kiss but not much. There story is bittersweet but so beautiful!! You wouldn't expect the harsh weapon master to be so sensitive and poetic while professing his love and I never realized the depth of Jessamy's despair and happiness in finding true love. They complete each other perfectly and I hope we will get more snapshot of them in the next books. 8/4/14. Public Library. I'm not normally a fan of short stories I tend to find them disappointing sometimes to the point where I wish I could unread them but I love Ms. Singh as an author and couldn't resist. I'm not sure I would've bought this collection but I was happy to find a copy. In the regular series I liked Sara better but in this short story I found Sara's character disappointing and unimaginative. In contrast Ash's character was wonderful in regard to her depth and possibilities. The next story is Noel a vampire we met only briefly in the regular series. His story is nice but the last story is the best. We finally get to see how Jessamy and Galen meet. Angels' Pawn3.7 Stars. This was a good short story involving Ash and Janvier but not the most fulfilling. You do get a better feel for them as characters which is nice since we doesn't see much of Ash in the series but she could/should have her own side series. As characters they have all these lovely levels of complexity you crave to know more about them. To unravel their secrets and discover what made them into the people they are today. Angels' Judgment3.9 Stars. This story is how Deacon and Sara met. It takes place before she became the Guild Director and he retired from being Slayer. Raphael and Ellie are also in it but it's before they have met. It's a good short story from beginning to end offering excitement, danger, and devotion. Angel's Wolf3.8 Stars. This is the story of Noel and Nimra. We met Noel in Ellie's book when he was discovered ravaged by Raphael's enemies. Noel is physically healed but emotionally struggles with the aftermath of the savage attack. Nimra is one of Raphael's angels that holds the Louisiana territory. She is a powerful woman angel that has managed to not lose her soul in the process. Noel and Nimra find solace in each other as they battle back old hurts. Angels' Dance4.2 Stars. Out of all the stories this is my favorite. Jessamy and Galen are normally so reserved we don't see much if their live and personalities in the regular series so it was nice to see who they really are and the passion they share for one another. This story is set 400 years in the past so we get to see Raphael and most of his seven before they became the men we know today. Fall in love with Galen and Jessamy all over again as they fall in love with one another.

This is one of my favorite Guild Hunter books. It starts a bit slow with a story about Ashwini and Janvier, but then really picks up with the rest. For me, the interesting part of this story was the view into angel politics. Nazarach is beyond cruel and evil, but Raphael supports him because Nazarach is strong and loyal. Angels' Judgment is about Sara's acceptance of becoming the next guild director and her relationship with Deacon. The story is very spare, particularly as compared with Nalini Singh's later books in which every emotion is explored in excruciating detail. The plot is good and I liked this story even more after I read it a second time. Angel's Wolf is my favorite of the four stories. It is the story of the vampire Noel, who had been very badly hurt in the second Guild Hunter book. He is sent by Raphael to work with Nimra, the angel who rules Louisiana, and who is mentioned in passing in various books. I liked the lack of insta-love and Nimra's sharp intelligence. Nimra and Noel became characters that I cared about. Angels' Dance tells the tale of Jessamy's relationship with Galen and of Galen's relationship with Raphael in the early years of Raphael's rule. Galen is the first to see Jessamy as a woman after at least two thousand years of the other angels seeing her as only the Teacher. She is much older at 2,600 than Galen who is 275. Galen has come to Raphael's section of the Enclave to ask to be his weapons master as there is no room for Galen in Titus' court. The story takes place over more than a year as Galen helps Raphael build New York and consolidate his power. Angels' Dance is set something like 700 years before the novels and I love the glimpse it gives into the past. We see an early view of Dmitri, Illium, Aodhan, Trace, Kier, and Jason. Lijuan is not yet fully the creature of the novels and Alexander has mysteriously disappeared after being connected with Michaela (not yet an archangel). The language of this story is a bit too flowery for my taste, but it was balanced out by the general oddness of Galen and Jessamy and by the slow growth of their relationship. I enjoyed this story even more when I reread it after finishing the later Guildhunter novels.

All the shorts were great, but Galen's story was by far the best! I would love a full book for him!!

Wonderful back stories to some of the secondary characters. Nicely written.
