Angyali Gonosz (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I like books with a lot of action and conflicts that get your blood pumping. This book didn't quite do it for me. The plot interested me, and I liked the characters, but things moved too slow for me. I found myself getting bored in places. If the book was a little more fast-paced and exciting, I would have liked it more. Hopefully, the second book will be better. The first 100 or so pages consists of the main character, Anna, going to parties and clubs with her friend, Jay. But since Anna is such a good and innocent girl, she never really does much at these parties. Then next hundred pages is of Anna and Kaiden, another Nephilim, in a car driving for about about a week to meet Anna's dad, who is in jail. Within this time, Anna and Kaiden seem to have fallen in love with each other but refuse to admit it. The rest of the book pretty much flips back and forth from Anna being heartbroken over Kaiden leaving her and Anna pretending to be a hardcore Nephilim. There wasn't much action in this book. There were a few scenes that got me a little excited, like at the demon meetings. Other than that, I was kind of bored. I found myself not reading as much, because I was starting to get bored with the story. Sweet Evil has been on my radar for a while now, so I was pleased to pick up a copy. It is one of those angel/demon series. I’m never sure what I’m going to make of these books. They can be incredibly cringy, or they can be fairly decent! Sweet Evil fell in-between the two for me. I thought it was a good story and I’m definitely interested in continuing, but there are some awkward, cheesy moments within the story. I did like how it took a bit of a different perspective when it comes to Angels vs Demons.Anna Whitt is our main protagonist. She was born with the ability to see and feel other’s emotions by seeing the colour of their auras. She can also remember when she was born. Anna’s not sure why she can do this, but she knows she’s had the skill all of her life. Anna feels different to her peers, especially because her morals are so high compared to the rest of her contemporaries. Anna meets a guy called Kaidan. She is instantly attracted to him… but she can’t see his emotions like everyone else. He’s different (can you see where this is going…?) Anna is surprised to find out that he knows about her abilities and he has similar abilities himself. Kaidan is the son of the Duke of Lust which explains why he always has girls around him. Anna and Kaidan go on a road trip to meet Anna’s father, who she’s never met before. Kaidan fills Anna in with what her abilities actually mean. Anna is different from other Nephilim. Anna’s mother was an angel and Anna’s father (the Dule of Substance Abuse) is a fallen angel. Anna’s always been a ‘good’ girl but things are about to change! It’s quite nice to read a story about a character that is so innocent. It’s not often that you see the characters in YA fiction have such high morals and that’s okay for me. Anna’s faith never really felt preachy. I think the author dealt with it in an effective way. Anna as a character is a little whiny, so I can imagine that she would really grate on some people’s nerves. I really liked Anna’s friendship with Jay. It was good to read about a female-male friendship that wasn’t about secret longing for each other. I liked Kaidan too, although he is the typical bad boy. I do think he may have some layers to him ready to be revealed.I am looking forward to continuing the series to see what happens next to the characters!

What do You think about Angyali Gonosz (2013)?

I must confess I always saw this book on book stores and here, on GoodReads, but I kept making excuses to delay my reading it. What a waste of time! I can count the number of books I've read before SWEET EVIL that didn't have even half of its awesomeness. I think I waited so long bc I needed a push to stop judging its title and synopsis (because that's why I kept delaying it). Regret! that's what I feel! Sweet Evil takes the BAD BOY falling for the GOOD GIRL to a whole new level and oh, boy, Kaidan Rowe! Can we have an appreciation moment here? This character deserves it. And it was also surprisingly to find a naive and innocent character that didn't annoyed me! Anna Whitt made it to my heart, folks! Although I did get suspicious about Patti at first. But that's it, Sweet Evil IS amazing and you should totally read it. ;DD

This was highly addicting. I kept picking it up, planning on only reading a chapter or two, then realizing I had read 100 pages. I just couldn't ever put it down. I really like the mythology. It made the story more unique from other demon/angel books I've read. The main characters were nothing special and kind of the typical YA tropes but I still found myself caring about them and liking them. I loved the side characters! They all had a lot of depth. Overall this was a very addicting story and I'm excited to pick up the sequel.
