Annie Fleet And The Golden Jaguar (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
Annie goes to an elite private high school with Hollywood rich kids. She is an ace scuba diver and works in her mom's dive shop, while her dad is a teacher at the school. She signs up for a spring break service trip to Cozumel with a handful of other students, only to find herself part of a treasure hunting mystery involving her history teacher. I didn't find it a very realistic plot, however some teens will probably enjoy the adventure. I don't read a lot of teen books, but I just had finished another treasure hunting adventure book when I saw this one pop up on Netgalley and decided to give it a try.Annie Fleet is a freshman at the exclusive Pinedale Academy, the school for child stars and children of celebrities. She crushes on the gorgeous Josh Rebstock, a junior and the son of a beautiful actress, but figures she is way out of his league as she only gained entrance to the school as the daughter of a professor there. Annie is a nervous wreck when we meet her as she is giving a presentation on the lost Golden Jaguar to her class which just so happens to include Josh- a class that is paying no attention to her it seems until Josh starts asking questions about the jaguar. Josh, Annie and 2 other classmates (twins Nate and Katy) are slated to travel to a hurricane-ravaged area with the professor of the class as part of a humanitarian effort. When they arrive, they find that they are in for more than they bargained for since their teacher is a part-time treasure hunter who is also on the trail of the lost golden jaguar. Mayhem ensues shortly thereafter in the form of rival treasure hunters who will stop at nothing to get the treasure- and also as a few catty teenage girls who want the same guy.Josh was a sweet guy but also a typical 17 year old male; teenage insecurities are on display everywhere with all of the characters which often leads to some amusing situations. I loved Annie's best friend Gracia, and Mimi was a hoot at times too. As the treasure hunt takes off and the danger escalates, Annie's only confidante is Josh until they finally decide to bring the rest of the gang in on it. To her amazement her friends support her and really come through for her in her time of need.Overall this was a really fun, sweet teen read and I am glad that Netgalley offered me the chance to review it!

it's supposed to be a romance but there isn't much romance. It was good anyway.
