On the way up the elevator, a woman she didn’t know very well from bookkeeping began an immediate, deep conversation about the latest diet fad with a woman leaning in the opposite corner. When the door slid open on the ninth floor, three separate colleagues pivoted at the same moment, each murmuring about forgetting something. People seemed to be acting funny.
