Around India In 80 Trains (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
This isn't the most exciting travelogue I've ever read, but I really enjoyed the author's choice to discover India by train. I have visited India, and spent one night on a train, but did not have time or resources for such a lengthy trip. It really gave a sense of India as frustrating and amazing all at once and extremely diverse. It made me want to spend more time in India, and more time on trains. I recommend it. If I could give this zero stars, I would. It is, quite simply put the worst book I have ever read. The writing is fine, the grammar is fine and the material is bearable as well. It's the voice of the author - an annoying, whingey voice that makes one feel unsympathetic to situations that would usually warrant a full outpouring of sympathy. I could go on and finish reams of paper on what exactly is wrong with this book, but the other reviews have covered most of it. Also, I really don't want to waste more time of this book than I already have. It is a pity I have a thing of finishing books I begin.
