Arsenic And Old Puzzles: A Puzzle Lady Mystery (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
I really enjoy the puzzle lady series. They are light, rapid reads, ideal when in need of something which is quick and doesn't require paying serious attention to the plot or characters. I also greatly enjoy the fact that most of the story moves along with conversations, not paragraphs of descriptive sentences. And the crosswords and sudokus give fun breaks in the reading and the chance for the reader to match wits with the characters to see if you can determine the meaning of the clues before they do. Reading books with puzzles, recipes or patterns always makes me feel like I'm getting a "deal"...two for one! The puzzles in this book were fun and challenging and did relate to the story (well the crosswords did...how does sudoku relate to anything?). The solution to the mystery didn't completely surprise me, and I'm not sure why a woman who doesn't do puzzles is a "Puzzle Lady" and is almost invaluable to the police. Thus the 3 stars. It entertained me.
