Dystopian, yes. Steampunk? Not that I can see. IT is a story about an alternate future. A city with royalty (one assumes it could be London, but not necessarily) that has had a dome built over it to protect the people from the world burning. A comet apparently hit the earth & set it ablaze. But that was 200 years ago. Is it possible that the world is no longer on fire? Is it possible that outside the dome there is a future other than the one that is laid out before it's residents? Because inside the dome, you will do what your family has always done. As will your children, and their children. No ones lives ever have a hope of improving. A young man tries to get out. And he makes it, but he comes back for the girl he loves. And he is burnt for it. His death sets off a chain reaction that brings unlikely people together, and sets the world on fire in a new way. I really liked this one. It started out well, and kept going well in my opinion. I really liked the main character, she is the driving force behind a rebellion and she isn't even aware of it. Just being the person, the kind of human her grandfather taught her to be encouraged others to reach for greater things. I felt there were a few gaps in the story, like I was confused with the layout of the tunnels and city above at times. This is one of those books I had checked out from the library like three times and never read it, but once I started I knew I would love it.
