Baby-Sitting Is A Dangerous Job (1996) - Plot & Excerpts

Baby-Sitting Is a Dangerous Job is a great suspenseful story about 14 year old or 13 1/2 baby sitter named Darcy who wanted a babysitting job and ended up baby sitting the Foster kids who were named, Jeremy, Melissa and Shana. After the second day of sitting they all end up getting kidnapped by three men. The men take them to a cabin miles away from any neighbors, and in the cabin there were two Doberman dogs watching the kids making sure they did not escape. The kidnappers wanted a ransom from the Foster kids parents and would not give the kids until they got the money. Later in the story the Foster kids parents meet the kidnappers and get the ransom, meanwhile Darcy and the kids go hide in a place above the attic. The kids were trying so hard to escape but then they had a great idea, they faked running away but instead they stayed and hid from the kidnappers. While the cops were looking for the kids the two dogs who were treated badly turned on the kidnappers and defended the kids, meanwhile the other two kidnappers got stung by wasps, just in time when the cops arrived. I think that this is a good book for kids my age because it has mystery, action, adventure that includes kidnapping, bad language, and crime scenes. I am glad I got to spend time reading this book because it makes me more aware that people are out there that can commit crimes and cannot be trusted. During the story Darcy, who was the main character was very brave and smart to get out alive from the house and protect the kids. My favorite part was when the dogs fought the kidnapper, and the kids and Darcy used a swarm of wasps as a weapon to attack the kidnappers and get away. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good suspenseful would like this book.Just Right

This is a very slight book about a baby-sitter who gets kidnapped along with her charges. The premise could be terrifying, but the execution comes off as a bit bland. The villains are a father and his two sons. The father is mean, and a child beater. One of his sons is cruel and greedy. The other is kind-hearted and dim. They are hapless kidnappers, and the wonder of the book is that they managed to keep the kids imprisoned long enough to collect the ransom. The babysitter is also a bit dim-witted. She makes several mistakes through the book and aknowledges them as such. I actually liked this aspect of the book, or at least I liked it better than if she were a genius superhero. Ultimately, my main problem with this book is that it's supposed to be frightening and I have a hard time imagining any kid, or at least any kid who has ever seen a movie or watched television, being frightened.
