I started reading this book this last week and finally finished it late Sunday night. I just couldn't bring myself to go to bed I had to finish it. And I absolutely loved it. The concept that I loved the most that she changed on how we all perceive what a Vampire is. When we think of most vampire books and movies they are considered cold, dead, no feelings for human life we are thought of as cattle. And as you start reading the book Kade doesn't like humans and Val doesn't like Vampires. But they have to team up to find a killer and things fly and spark between them. Kade's heart hasn't beat in centuries until Val comes walking into his life and blood pumping in other regions. I loved that, that it made him feel he was alive. We also think that in most books and movies that once your changed that you lose your humanity and Kade didn't. No matter what Olen and Evangeline tried to curb his feelings towards humans. He may of thought in the beginning that humans were cattle but as the book progresses you can see the change in Kade and also Val. Then you have the bloodlings that are going on and the different opinions on whose doing it. Also the fight for the throne and the people behind the killings comes as a shock that I didn't see coming. The next book due out is Bad Cop with Ian and Alice! I look forward to reading this one also. It takes a good book to keep my interest if the book gets to boring or repetitive I have a habit skipping through chapters till I get to some action and even then if its not good I skip right through it lol! But this book kept me in from page one. This is my first review I have left for any author I have over 1000 books between my kindle and my phone. This book won't disappoint its packed with everything you will love about paranormal! on phone so much more to come! I READ TILL 3AM!! THEN WENT RIGHT INTO BAD COP - soooo good!I won this book in a contest that the author was participating in. LUCKY ME! It also provided me with the opportunity to interact with the author a bit and she is a great lady. A lot of the things that come across in her book from Val, and also from some of the team, come from Ms. McCallister - smart, witty, resourceful, kind but not a doormat, push her too far and she blows but she will put up with A LOT OF CRAP before that happens! The title of this book is PERFECT! Kade, our vampire, is one of those people who seems to have been born with no filter. None. What he thinks comes running out of his mouth peppered with swear words. Or just swear words. Either way this dude definitely has a "Bad Mouth". That is until he puts his on yours. Or anywhere on you. Then you realize just how good a vampire can be with his "Bad Mouth".Val has let other people opinion's and desires and fears of vampires color her view for years. She has never let herself be anything less than civil in her job and has made sure that vampires stay on their straight and narrow path and those who deviate from the law are punished. Severely. From all the negative things she has seen - and very little of anything positive - she has developed a strong dislike of vampires and their confusing hierarchy and silly traditions she doesn't care to understand. Until she meets Kade. He represents and personifies everything she hates about vampires - but she can't stop thinking about him. His persona and behaviour display all she abhors but his eyes - they seem lonely and so very tired. He is a contradiction she wants to solve. She needs to solve. This book made me laugh and screech and kept me awake till close to 3 AM just to finish it. I had to finish it - I couldn't stop. What did I do when I finished it after 2:30 AM? Did I lie down and go to sleep? Hells no - I immediately opened Bad Cop - the next book. According to my kindle I read till 5:50 AM. I fell asleep sitting up before that and woke up at 6:30. Then I laid down and slept till 9:30! And finished Bad Cop that day.
