A very odd story set in a dark future, where humans barely survive underground living horrific lives of disease and despair. On the good side, we have a solid exchanges of dialogue with interesting characters including separated young lovers, a journalist, and a child thief. The overall setting is bleak, small glimmers of hope and touches of humor. However, the developing plot becomes confusing and vague leading to a very unsatisfying end. Still, a worthy read for those seeking something different, with connected moments reminding us how the spirited light can endure in darkness. Post apocalyptic tale of underworld survival. Very polished graphics, nearly too polished for my taste. Several story details are gratuitous and do not add to the story. I would have chosen a different covering illustration.... On second thought, maybe this genre of graphic novel is not meant for my tastes at all. Overall, I did enjoy reading this, but I would have preferred that the theme and content were presented with a more sensitive(?) reader in mind.
What do You think about Ball Peen Hammer (2009)?
If you want a comic-cross btw anything zombie and "contagion", this is your bag... of body parts.

An incredibly bleak, ugly story but an extraordinary book. The illustrations are stunning!
