Banishing The Dark (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

It's rare to see a series grow to full fruition by the time it ends. Bennett does a fantastic job in Banishing the Dark by allowing Cady to grow into her full knacks and her other, scalier self. Of course, nothing is as easy as it seems, and Bennett turns Cady's relationship with Lon on its head, making for some really unique and funny circumstances that made this book stand out for me. Without giving anything away, suffice it to say there is an unforeseen interpersonal twist that underlies Cady and Lon's relationship throughout all the drama and action. I also really appreciated that Bennett allowed teenaged Jupe to participate in his own adult-like way. It was a little like watching a nature documentary where a cub goes off to test himself in the wild. Bennett really nails the adolescent male experience with Jupe's reaction to the cushion-y thing. With all this growing and maturing, I (as a reader) feel like I can rest easy knowing that while there will be no more books, the characters have what they need to be safe in their world without us. 3.5 stars I wasn't super thrilled with this book as I have been all the others that received a solid five stars from me. Spoilers ahead, be warned. First, you spend half the book with Cady not having any memories, twice actually. You KNOW since it's the last book she's getting her memories back and you've been through so much with her and Lon that I felt like I was stuck on a hamster wheel listening to her wonder why Lon looked at her the way he did and GASP! Did he just see her naked? Come on, I wanted to get as much as I could out of the last of them, not re-live scenes I read ages ago. I felt the memory thing went on waaaay too long. Also having to watch her realize she is pregnant on three separate occasions (once last book, twice in this one) got pretty old. That being said, I was very happy with the ending and really hope Jupe gets a spin-off, because I would definitely love to hear from these characters again!
